The Motel One hotel group has broken new ground by offering a compact, high-quality design concept in city-centre locations. This hotel, on Rue Royale in the centre of Brussels, is the first custom-built Motel One outside Germany. With 490 rooms, it is the largest hotel (by number of rooms) inside the Brussels city centre pentagon. The project also includes a public car park and a 200 m² retail space on the ground floor, occupied by a cosmetics shop.

Concept and architecture

The project was designed by ARCHi2000 in collaboration with Motel One's architectural teams to meet strict specifications. A 35 m wide inner courtyard-garden was created on the former site of the daily newspaper Le Soir, surrounded by high-performance rooms and a pleasant two-level lobby. The façade, in stone and white architectural concrete, creates a remarkable play of shadows. The complex overlooks a public car park accessible below via Rue de Ligne. The hotel also has an entrance on this side, giving residents quick access to the historic centre.

Sustainability

  • A hotel with 490 keys and 14,500 m² over 8 floors
  • A public car park (199 spaces), operated by BESIX Park
  • A retail space of 200 m² on the ground floor, leased to the cosmetics boutique originally located on this site.
  • The first development in Brussels of a new type of lifestyle hotel, without a restaurant but with a lively multifunctional lobby, complementing the more traditional hotel offering
  • Restoration of a site that was once completely built-up by creating a large opening in the heart of the block
  • Replacing outdated offices with a new function in the block, increasing the functional mix of the neighbourhood, enlivening the building's façade and supporting the diversification of Brussels' tourism offer
  • The availability to the public of parking spaces previously reserved for offices.

A royal location

Location and accessibility

Motel One occupies a prestigious address in the historic centre of Brussels, close to the Parc Royal and government institutions. It offers easy access to the extensive public transport network right on its doorstep, the central station (with a direct connection to the airport) and the city's largest cultural and shopping area.
