Creation of SBB/BBM
Jacques-Marie and Charles Stulemeijer found the Société Belge des Bétons/ Belgische Betonmaatschappij (SBB/BBM) in 1909, focusing on prestigious construction projects. They gained renown for reconstructing Belgium's ports and canals post-World War I.
Creation of Betonimmo
SBB/BBM diversifies itself by entering the property development market. This branch is called Betonimmo.
Creation of BESIX RED
SBB/BBM, backed by Orascom, executes a leveraged Management Buy-Out, delisting the Group and renaming it BESIX Group. Real estate activities get consolidated, forming BESIX RED, replacing Betonimmo.
First project in France (13,500 m²)
BESIX RED launches its first development project in France, named Perspective, a 13,500 m² office project in EuraLille.
New Management Team/Strategy
BESIX RED welcomes a new management team led by Gabriel Uzgen as Managing Director, marking the start of a strategic shift towards greater geographical and sectoral diversification.
First hotel development and reinforcement in Luxembourg
BESIX RED completes its first hotel with Motel One in Brussels' royal district, marking its Mixed Use and Retail portfolio expansion. BESIX RED also expands its team and portfolio in Luxembourg.
Winning of NEO Tender
The Brussels Region's NEO project aims to develop a new district at Heysel near the Atomium. BESIX RED wins the architectural competition and plans to create a 212,000 m² mixed-use project with various renowned partners and architects.
First project in the Netherlands (39,500 m²)
BESIX RED obtains its first project in the Netherlands, Sluishuis, a 39,500 m² residential project in Amsterdam, expanding its portfolio within the Benelux real estate landscape.
First project in Portugal (41,000 m²)
BESIX RED acquires its first project in Portugal called Parque Oriente (43,900 m²), in the Parque das Nações district in Lisbon.
The Cosmopolitan, MIPIM AWARDS finalist
The Cosmopolitan, a renovation of an obsolete office building into an iconic white residential tower in Brussels, becomes a finalist for the prestigious MIPIM AWARDS 2020 in the ‘Best Refurbished Building’ category.
Seizing Pan-European opportunities
BESIX RED continues its geographical diversification and expands in Europe, with the acquisition of PURE, an 8,000 m² office in Lille, France, and Aletta, a 42,000 m² mixed-use development in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Completion of ICÔNE
BESIX RED completes the emblematic ICÔNE office project in Belval, Luxembourg. This 17,300 m² workspace redefines traditional offices and is one of Luxembourg's first with a BREEAM Excellent rating.
Sluishuis winner of MIPIM AWARDS
Sluishuis, our iconic residential project in Amsterdam, wins a prestigious MIPIM AWARD 2023 for ‘Best Residential Project’.
