The TILIA project involves redeveloping the site of the former military hospital of Salzinnes to create a new residential green neighbourhood. Emphasizing its historical significance, the site, previously owned by the province, has remained off-limits to the public until now.
Concept and architecture
Designed by BURO 5, the TILIA project aims to preserve and transform part of the existing site into 8 renovated single-family houses and a polyvalent room, alongside the construction of 5 new houses and 55 new apartments distributed across four new buildings, all set within a lush green space. This renovation will retain the site's heritage charm, blending the old with the new. The green space will connect the upper and lower parts of the site via a new pedestrian pathway. Furthermore, the project will redesign all roads and public spaces to promote soft mobility within the site, fostering a cohesive and integrated vision.

- 18 existing linden trees along the driveway will be preserved to enhance its landscape principle
- The new project incorporates plantings on the building sides that will adorn the facades with various autumnal colours; oaks, hornbeams, pear trees, and columnar tulip trees, Scots pines, Judas trees, etc.
- The project has undergone a landscape study that foresees the replanting of 77 new trees in accordance with the project
- The existing buildings, restored into small individual housing units, will have private lawned and planted gardens from the outset: from hedges with leafy species to spring blossoms and autumn colours
The biodiversity from the new plants will provide shelter and sustenance for the indigenous entomological and ornithological fauna essential to the ecological balance of urban environments.
